My story

Silke Schweitzer
Ever since I can remember, I have always had headaches and often very severe migraine attacks with difficulty finding words, visual field loss and all the other nice side effects. I was also constantly ill, every few weeks I had a purulent tonsillitis and frequent stomach problems. I was injured much more often in sport than anyone else in my team, I never slept through the night and was constantly awake, which is why I was constantly tired and listless during the day. The doctors couldn’t really help me either, it was just the way it was, I was simply “susceptible”… would never have linked it to my diet.
About 10 years ago, a lecturer at a training course asked me why I was so quiet, which was not usually my style. I told him to please just leave me alone because I had a bad headache. He sat down with me in the evening after the course and listened to my “tale of woe”, asked me a lot about my living conditions and my diet. He taught me for the first time how much influence our diet has on all other areas of our lives.
After this conversation, I began to change my diet. I consistently left out cereals, sugar and dairy products and ate fish, meat, fruit, vegetables, eggs and nuts instead. I was surprised at the foods in which I discovered sugar by shopping consciously. The first 2-3 weeks were surprisingly easy… but then! I got withdrawal symptoms, like a junkie! And that’s all I was, except that until then my drugs were sugar, cereals and dairy products. This phase was tough, but I kept going and persevered, the pressure of suffering was great enough.
After 6 weeks I woke up in the morning and somehow felt different, couldn’t grasp it at first, until I realized that for the first time in my life I was completely headache-free… WOW, what a great feeling! That was incredible!
And that was the beginning of a whole new way of life for me. It still took me some time to come to terms with the new diet in my everyday life, but in the meantime I have found my way. And this route also includes a Kaiserschmarren at the hut or a delicious pizza at the weekend. But these are exceptions, my so-called “sin days”.
The dose makes the poison, as long as there are exceptions, everything is fine.
