Healthy body and soul during the pandemic

Eat healthily and stay fit despite corona

The COVID-19 pandemic means that many of us are still avoiding public gatherings and staying at home, and naturally doing less in terms of social interaction and exercise. This can have a negative impact on our physical and mental health.

In my blog today, I would like to give you some advice on how to stay fit and do something for your health despite coronavirus, lockdown and contact restrictions.

How to stay physically active during Corona

Many of us are staying at home due to the coronavirus crisis and are sitting more than usual, especially when working from home. It is even more difficult for people who do not normally do much sport.

Exercise in nature is good for your health

Exercise in the fresh air

Physical activity benefits both the body and the mind.

  • Plan time for physical activity in your day.
  • Despite working from home, take time for a lunch break and go out at least once a day. 30 minutes in the fresh air.
  • Take regular breaks from sitting by standing up and stretching or walking quickly.
  • Take an online fitness course or do regular yoga or Pilates exercises.
  • Make sure you get enough restful sleep.

How to stay mentally healthy

The contact and exit restrictions caused by the coronavirus crisis are leading to lifestyle changes for most of us. Working from home, homeschooling or temporary unemployment can severely limit contact with other family members, friends and colleagues. Coping with the fear of contracting the virus and caring for our fellow human beings is a new and major challenge for all of us.

Perhaps your daily routine has changed completely and you are trying to make the best of the situation?

I would like to give you a few tips on how to stay mentally healthy during the coronavirus period:

  • Stay informed about the current situation and follow the advice and recommendations of your national and local authorities.
  • Get up and go to bed at the same time.
  • Plan your time in the home office and your free time at fixed times.

How to eat healthily during the COVID-19 pandemic

Good nutrition is important for your health, especially at times when your immune system needs to be particularly stable. Perhaps you only have limited access to fresh food due to the coronavirus crisis or are consuming more convenience products?

Nevertheless, you can still eat healthily even with few and limited ingredients.

Eat a healthy diet rich in vitamins

It is worth remembering Hippocrates’ words: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food!”

How to eat healthily during Corona

Fruit and vegetables as components of a healthy diet

Some of the healthiest and most vitamin-rich natural products are:

  • Almonds: Almonds provide many nutrients such as magnesium, vitamin E, iron, calcium, fiber, riboflavin
  • Oat flakes: Oats contain complex carbohydrates and water-soluble fiber. These slow down digestion and help to stabilize blood sugar levels. Oatmeal is also a good source of folic acid and potassium.
  • Fruit, vegetables and berries
The following are some of the healthiest: broccoli, apples, kale, blueberries, avocados, green leafy vegetables. They contain vitamins A, B-6, C, E and K, selenium, niacin, zinc, phosphorus, copper, potassium, calcium, manganese, betaine and iron.
  • Fish, meat and eggs:
Fish such as salmon, trout, mackerel, herring, sardines and anchovies are rich in vitamins A and D and provide your body with omega-3 fats.
Chicken or poultry meat is an excellent source of protein.
Eggs contain vitamins such as B-2 and B-12. These two vitamins are important for maintaining energy and producing red blood cells and are rich in protein.

Make sure you drink enough fluids

It is not only important in the summer months to provide the body with sufficient fluids. Therefore, make sure that you drink enough.

  • Drink enough water
  • Avoid alcohol
  • enrich the body with vitamin-rich fruit and vegetable cocktails, smoothies and fresh juices

Conclusion

The topic of coronavirus and COVID-19 has dominated the media and our everyday lives for weeks. Even if the mask requirement, contact restrictions and gradual easing of the government’s guidelines are very drastic measures to limit the spread of the virus for some people, it is still important to stay fit, especially during this time.
